studio
Set amongst the tall dark trees of the Dandenong Ranges forest, east of Melbourne, the studio is a sanctuary where all sense of time, place and self, cease to exist. Studio time is often spent in the experimental process, exploring endless colour pallets and different material combinations. These investigations sometimes develop into smaller works on paper, which mostly include crayon, paint pens, collage and charcoal. Much consideration is given to these experiments, prior to committing to a large scale canvas, both in terms of colour choices and medium usage.
The work is all about energy, movement, and emotion. I love working on a large scale because it allows me to physically engage with each painting, making bold marks and expressive gestures. I use a mixture of media which includes oil paint, oil sticks, acrylic and spray paint because they allow me to build layers, reveal textures, and create a sense of depth. I especially love working with oil sticks because they allow me to engage with the raw, tactile experience of drawing rather than paining with a brush.
The large scale of the paintings creates a presence. They fill a space with energy, whether it's a home, a corporate setting, or a gallery. They aren’t just paintings on a wall—they transform a room, set a mood, and spark conversation. Many of my collectors are drawn to the bold colour choices and the movement within the work because it brings life and dynamism to their space.
Through my art, I seek to dissolve the boundaries of the tangible, allowing viewers to engage with the infinite and the eternal. Each piece is a meditative exploration, inviting a shared journey towards understanding the unseen forces that shape our existence and consciousness.
