The Music Box is an abstract impression drawn from the tender, dreamlike memories of my childhood—specifically, a beloved pink music box that once held my heart. At its centre was a tiny ballerina, endlessly pirouetting in a glittering, multicoloured tutu, spinning to the delicate, chiming melody that played each time I opened the lid. That moment—the light catching the sequins, the music rising softly, the sense of magic—left a lasting imprint on my imagination.
This painting is not a literal depiction, but a sensory translation of that memory. Through colour, movement, and mark-making, I aimed to evoke the wonder, joy, and emotional weight that object carried. Swirls of soft pinks, shimmering accents, and rhythmic lines reflect the music’s lilting quality and the ballerina’s graceful spin. Layers of abstraction echo the way memory distorts and reshapes over time—how what remains is not the object itself, but how it made us feel.
