Located on the rugged east side of the Tasman Peninsula, Devil’s Kitchen is a dramatic piece of coastline. It is a deep trench that has been carved out by the crashing waves of the Tasman Sea.. On many occasions during my childhood, I visited this wild coastline with my family and these adventures created cherished moments that instilled a sense of appreciation for the beauty and power of nature. On days when the weather was wild and windy, the waves crashing into this crevice amplified the spectacle. The turbulent waters resembled a chaotic washing machine, churning and foaming within the confines of the narrow rock formations and I remember the feeling of being mesmerized by the swirling violence of the sea. The sound of the waves, the spray of saltwater, and the forceful winds combine to create a lasting memory and feeling of an environment that is both exhilarating and daunting.
